Empowerment for our girls

EMPOWERMENT ESSENTIALS FOR GIRLS: basics for her journey
This is a six workshop series for girls ages 14-17.

All of my teen workshops, one-on-one or in a group, are still available. I just don't happen to have any formally scheduled right now. However, don't hesitate to let me know at any time if you are interested in having your teenager take them. I will work with you to set up a format that works best for all.

Workshop Topics

1) Facing change: a discussion on how to embrace change by focusing on opportunities rather than on the fear. We discuss the power of thoughts, point of view and outlook.
2) Discovery: explanation of why self-worth is so important, encouraging her to discover her own individuality, and guiding her to own her unique personality and personal gifts.
3) Possibilities: guiding her understanding that anything is possible and that she holds the power to create what she wants for herself now and in her future, including how to embrace obstacles as guidance for life.
4) People: explanation of how people are attracted by behavior, thoughts or actions, including teaching her how to be responsible for attracting the best people for her own journey.
5) Creativity: furthering the topic that she has the power to create the life she wants and explaining the importance of self-expression through creativity. This workshop also includes how to set intention and take action on those areas in which she desires to express her creativity.
6) Joy: growing up can be frustrating, but finding ways to work towards feeling good and having a purposeful attitude can go a long way in enjoying her young years as well as her life ahead.

Investing in our girls

It has always been my intention that FYJ is a place for both women and men, although it is mostly women who show interest in my offerings. So while I have come to expect mostly women, I was a bit surprised when it was suggested that I expand my empowerment workshop offerings to teen girls. It sounded like a good idea, but I initially underestimated just how important it could be.

As guidance does, it wasn't long before I noticed I was being led into something new. Suddenly from a couple of different sources, I received requests to help at-risk kids. One of those requests came with an invitation to attend a meeting for a new girls court at the Juvenile Probation Department. To be in that room with so many representatives from the different departments and agencies was definitely a new experience, yet everything people said deeply resonated within me.

This is how inspiration works--it seems as though I already knew these things, but had forgotten I knew. As everyone discussed the issues of these girls, I remembered being a teen myself. Girls need more self-esteem and guidance I thought. As I listened to these wonderful people who already devote their lives to helping our troubled kids, I wondered how I could help.

Creating the girls workshop outlines has really taken me back to a time I rarely think about. While I was not an outwardly troubled teen, the emotions I had, the way I used to think, and the decisions I made, now seem unimaginable. I was completely different with a whole different way of looking at life. What was missing that could have helped me make better decisions?
Where is the guidance to help the girls of today make better decisions? Do they know how special they are? Or know all they can be? Are we doing enough to invest in our young women? The consensus in that girls court meeting was that these girls are not criminals, they are simply starving for affection and validation. Unfortunately, this is why they are most vulnerable to the worst influences. We must do something! Seeking empowerment in our 30's and 40's is wonderful, but just think how much different our lives could have been if we knew how powerful we were when we were younger.

What are we willing to invest?

I plan on dedicating several hours of my week to helping teen girls learn to become self-empowered. However, I am unable to do it alone. I really need your help. I have put a series together called Empowerment Essentials for Girls: basics for her journey. While I will also be rolling this out to all teen girls in January, I am specifically asking for your help to meet my December goal of raising enough money to sponsor 24 girls who are unable to pay.

I have kept pricing to a minimum: six classes, two hours each, amounts to only $7.50 per hour! Total series is $90 per girl.

Sponsor one, two or more girls. Divide a sponsor payment into two months ($45 x 2), or team up with your friends or co-workers to help contribute more. Just think how far self-empowerment could go in making a difference, not only in their lives, but in the future of our communities and our world. You've heard it before, these kids are our future!

In honor of your daughter, your sister, your mother, or yourself as a teen, sponsor a girl today for her own special Empowerment Essentials series.

* Call me at 408.947.1508 where I will gladly accept payment by phone -or-
* Send a check payable to For Your Journey c/o 1346 The Alameda # 7126, San Jose, CA 95126

I promise to keep you updated on what your dollars are doing through the progress of the program.
With much love and gratitude, Donna

Series price per girl: $90 (or two monthly payments of $45)
All girls receive a free journal as well.
See Events page for further information.

Previous Stories Archived For Your Journey
Most months I get a chance to write about a lesson I learned or an inspiration that came through me as a result of my life experiences. I've decided to archive them for you because as I have realized in my own life, when I need to hear something, synchronicity seems to bring just the right thing to me. Hopefully there is something here for you today, because as I always mention, my intention behind sharing so much of my journey is to inspire you to become empowered on your own journey.
Enjoy! Donna, founder of FYJ
